WHAT IS GLASS FUSING?
Glass Fusing is the process of stacking multiple pieces of compatible glass together to make a design, then melting them together in a kiln. The fired result is a flat glass “tile” that, if desired, can be fired again (“slumped”) to take the shape of a 3D mold. The possibilities range from small simple projects to complex fine art, and everything in between.
ARE STAINED GLASS WINDOWS WEATHERPROOF?
When the panel is made, it is cemented with a putty to seal each individual piece of glass, making the whole panel watertight and strong. Extreme locations and weather though may enable water to penetrate though the panel on occasion. To ensure total weatherproofing and insulation we recommend encasing the panel in a sealed double-glazed unit
WHAT ARE THE BUILDING REGULATION RULES REGARDING CRITICAL AREAS?
Traditional stained glass lead lights are often glazed in vulnerable/critical areas – doors, sidelights, and at low levels. Building Regulations 2000 (approved document N) are very clear in deeming traditional stained glass lead lights as safe (within the definitions of these regulations) and suitable for use in these areas provided the small panes within the lead do not exceed specific sizes," a ‘small pane’ may be an isolated pane, or one of a number of panes contained within glazing bars, traditional leaded lights or copper-lights.
Small panes should have a smaller dimension not exceeding 250mm and an area not exceeding 0.5m2 each measured between glazing beads or similar fixings." We ensure if our windows are within these critical areas that our individual glass sizes do not exceed the regulations.
